Universalis App Reviews

Needs Work

A useful app for the few who need it but it crashes when you pinch to change the text size. It is necessary to have the pinch, rotate and scroll all working to allow the user to change the text size on the small screen to make it readable. I look forward to a update to get these things working.

Useful and needed

I have used Universalis services for a number of years on different formats and I am glad that the company has made them available for the iPhone/iTouch platform. This is a program for those who need it and we will gratefully pay what is demanded. Just for the record, the printed format expands through a set of five books, $40 each in most editorials. You calculate. I have used it for the past two weeks and I am not disappointed. I had no crashes even though I found browsing through long text a bit slow. Today I downloaded a new update that seems to address this and other minor glitches that are typical of v. 1.00. I havent tested yet. I respect the individuals who wrote some of the negative (no technical) reviews, but not their opinions. Because they write from the ignorance of someone who does not know what this program does for those of us who need it. Theres no place in iTunes reviews for such misleading rigidity. Kudos for Universalis. I look forward for future updates and revisions.

Great app!!

I use it all the time. All thats missing would be the responsorial psalm for the mass and the antiphon for each of the prayer psalms in the divine office and it would be set.

Excellent

A lot of content, worth every penny. No crashed, text sizing and position sensing work well.

Need Psalms added

This is a great application. I would give it 5 stars if the Psalms for the daily Readings at Mass were added. That way the application would be completely self contained.

Does what it says and does it well.... However....

$33 is insane for this app! I think this is one of the most expensive app on iTunes.

An excellent Resource

As a layperson, have been praying the Divine Office on-and-off over the years. I found the books bulky and somewhat labour intensive. I began to use the online Universalis source, and enjoyed it. Now that I have the iPhone version, it is amazingly simple to keep my commitment to pray the Divine Office, even when I am away from the computer and dont have the books. It is worth every penny! Enjoy!

Thanks be to God for this app

Its the reason I wanted an iPhone. No, not kidding. The finest Divine Office, ibreviary app there is, not reliant on an Internet connection and fully searchable - go to any day of any year any time. Not biased to one countrys calendar; select your country for more specific readings.

Wonderful application ... presentation needs work

This application is great, and really I would give it 5 stars if not for the terrible implementation of the page-turning animation. Please, your application needs to look like it belongs on an iPad. Look at the animations in Calendar and iBooks. It actually looks like you are turning a page there, and not some pseudo-3D hinge effect. That said, the application makes praying the Liturgy of the Hours very simple. No need to fumble with a breviary, the liturgical calendar is at your fingertips, as is a great amount of information concerning the saints. Likewise, the new English translation of the order of Mass is very helpful. Overall, a good app ... just fix that page turning and it would be beautiful.

4 out of 5

Hope this version fixes the go to star on the bottom of the calander. If you accidentally hit a month on the right side of the calendar the star on the bottom is supposed to bring you back to todays date, but it hasnt worked in the last few versions (it used to work) other than that its great although I dont know which bible version they are using at Mass because the wording is not the same and sometimes completely different. New American orJerusalem, must be another.

Great app to keep up with daily readings.

Like the app, and I havent used it much since I get daily emails. But one thing I find annoying is the inability to open the settings page with any sort of ease and not being able to scroll between pages, because the page flip just doesnt cut it, feels too unnatural.

Almost perfect

I have tried several missal apps and finally the translation is word for word even the psalms in this app but it really depends where you live. I live in the Caribbean. However, the negative is that the font size is way too small and there is no ability to change the size.

Superb app ...

In every respect. But it doesn’t look like the new feature regarding the Today screen showing the Saint of the day works.

App wont update on iPad

Great app! It is used daily but the latest update March 15, 2016...wont update...the updating process for this app only, stalls after showing a complete download icon (blue circle around pause button). Please fix

Excellent

Wonderful resource - a real treasure of readings and prayers for the whole year.

Perfectly Fine Version for Lay Devotional Use

This text is fine for devotional use. Only priests and religious in the United States are bound to the official American texts. I personally use this translation as well as the official American version.

Excellent

When Im home I prefer the four volume LOH, but when Im in my office I like this app. When youre praying privately it doesnt matter what translation you use--prayer is prayer. If you want to use the official prayer wording, then use Latin. But this app wont work for you if you absolutely have to use the same English as in the printed volumes. The app is constantly being improved. Having said all this, I would like to see crosses marking the Gospel canticles as a reminder to make the Sign of the Cross when reciting those parts.

WARNING MUST READ

if you are buying this for the Divine Office dont, the text is wrong. It is not the version used by religious or lay people in the United States. If used by a lay person you will not be able to say the Office with others in group or community. Please reference iBrevery for proper text.

Wonderful!

Contrary to the readers who obsess about your incorrectness/lack of "true Church approach" to LOH --- This app is one class act! And it continually improves on itself. The perfect way to carry the LOH with me. Thank you.
